I’ve had a really great experience with Buford Road Pharmacy. It’s so easy to call and speak to them about prescriptions and they have been very helpful with any questions I have. I love that they text me when the prescriptions is ready. The staff is very friendly and it has that small town feel. They even have some nice gifts and medical supplies as well as a post office so it is very convenient and fun to go there. My favorite pharmacy! Can’t beat it.
The pharmacy is a mess! I’m looking for an alternative to what the previous Buford Road Pharmacy was- excellent! All the old staff appears to be gone. Why? They have a new computer/pharmacy system that apparently was not implemented very thoughtfully because it is causing a lot of the problems. Why? I showed up Saturday morning for a 9 am opening, someone unlocked the door at 9:10am and walked away without opening the door and saying Good Morning. Turns out it was the pharmacist on duty. Then, because no one present (pharmacist, pharmacy techs) had the ability to open a register, customers waited again for the staff that could to show up- 9:15 and 9:30. I was not able to resolve my problems Saturday because staff was not able. So, I had to wait until today, Tuesday, to try again. Oh boy! The brick wall I’ve run into! I’ve asked and waited patiently for solutions to my problems with the response eventually being given making apparent that staff does not know what business they are in!! I’m so frustrated, feel badly for the employees, as this is OBVIOUSLY A MANAGEMENT PROBLEM.
I used the healthcare center where they work with me getting my Diabetic shoes the young gentleman that runs that section is outstanding. He is such a great guy. I was blessed to have him was nice. Talk with him and found out his dad was retired military like myself very respectful thank you all for your help.
This store is so cute! I walked in expecting a normal pharmacy and instead it’s a cute little gift shop with lots of local goodies for sale. They have everything you can think of: games, gift wrappings, flowers, and the staff is so sweet! I’d recommend to anyone who needs a gift but isn’t sure what to get. 10/10 :)
For decades this was a bright, vibrant place that was known throughout area for a variety of merchandise beyond the usual drug store and for excellent service. Over the past year, reduction in staff, the variety of inventory, and the even reduction in lighting has been sad to watch. Evidently the new owners didn’t appreciate the great customer friendly experience that was a tradition for many decades. Please at least bring back the friendly associates at the front counter. And turn the lights up!
This pharmacy used to be one of the best I have ever been to, but it has completely changed over the past month. The staff there was extremely nice and helpful, and I never had issues getting my inlaw's medicine on time. However, this has changed over the past month, it has switched night and day from before the 4th of July to now. My mother-in-law's medicine has not been filled for a week now, She is behind on her dosing, which is directly affecting her quality of life. I asked the staff what was happening, and those poor people looked all so exhausted. They informed me that ownership switched their pharmacy system, and it has been taking a long time for them to catch back up. They were not able to tell me when they would be able to catch up, but they did immediately fill the prescriptions while I was there for my mother-in-law. This is completely short sighted on the owners to implement a new system without verifying if it will cause massive issues. This directly impacts patient health, and I would not be surprised if someone sues due to either a worsening health issue or death of a relative from a lack of getting medicine filled. I am in the process of transferring all of my mother-in-law's prescriptions and will not be doing business at Buford until things change. I heavily encourage anyone considering to use this pharmacy to not to, at least until things change.
My mother started hospice yesterday with Crater Hospice. Pain medicines were ordered the day before and were never delivered. It was Saturday so I guess you closed early and we had no way to check. Luckily Walgreens had the liquid morphine in stock and we were able to get what we needed. Seems you would want to shine to keep from being beat out by the chains. Will never count on you again.
Buford Road Pharmacy often carries those hard to find quality items that few if any other stores may have. Yesterday I had to swing by this pharmacy because it’s so much more than just a pharmacy. Thankfully I found my favorite Virginia Diner cans of peanuts there, and they had some high quality potpourri that I really like and is Made in USA. I am very thankful this pharmacy exists!
Glad to have a pharmacy that mixes but it is more of a tiny pharmacy in the back of a gift shop/ convenience store. There are more yard decorations than Walmart or Walgreens, might be time to split the store into thirds and rent out the 2/3 not used with novelty items then it could be 5 stars and have other income stream or lower rent
Original review: I've loved Buford Rd Pharmacy for years, for merchandise and to be able to fill my cat's compounded medication needs. Well, today changed my opinion completely. I am beyond livid and entirely disappointed. My cat has a strongyloides infection that is also affecting his lungs. Strongyloides is a very common soil-borne parasite in Appalachia and many other parts of the world. It can be deadly, especially since it can live in lung tissue, causing much damage. My cat is 17, with other health issues and he needs the only medication proven to be highly effective against strongyloides- that medication is the "infamous, ultrapoliticized" antiparasitic drug, ivm, prescribed by my veterinarian, for a parasite at a very low compounded dose of 0.12ml to match the extended treatment protocol to safely eradicate a strongyloides infection in a cat his size. Well, I gave the written script to the old woman at the pharmacy counter around 2:20pm on 3/6/25 and left. 2 minutes later she called me and was incredibly rude and accusatory in her tone. She asked if I was me, I said yes, and she jumped right into "we don't have that here. We can't fill this prescription." I said "oh. By chance do you know of any pharmacy that can?" She says "no, we don't know any place that would do that." Very rude tone, refusing to even call the medication by its name, as if it's some vile, illegal item I'm trying to scam them into giving me. Insane. Then she says that my "veterinarian should have been the one to give it to me, and that they have nothing to do with such a thing". Really?? Since when can a vet compound a drug on site? I had to check her attitude by saying "for your information, my vet didn't have it, hence the script, and it's for a strongyloides infection that my cat has, hence he needs this medication because it's the only one that best kills this parasite." She briefly changed her tune to a saccharine "oh poor thing, i'm sorry". Yeah right. I went back inside to pick up the written script and she didn't say a word and handed it back, giving me this look as if I were some criminal. Hey BRP, keep your uninformed political nonsense out of pharmacology, and keep your employees in check. It's bad enough I was made to feel like some crack pot criminal for trying to save my cat, but now my vet and I are scrambling for an alternative to getting my cat the medicine he desperately needs. I am truly shocked by this experience. Never in a million years did I see this coming. This is supposed to be a professional pharmacy, not a politically charged facebook page. Wth just even happened today. Edit: For the owner's 1st reply- neglecting to acknowledge the way in which I actually WAS treated- yeah your apology is a meaningless formality to do damage control in your review section. Striving for a certain level of treatment of customers is clearly not the same as succeeding and that lack of success is evident not only in my review, but in the many reviews from customers sharing experiences with rude staff. I find it odd that you acknowledge the way they were treated in those responses, but glazed over it here as if it didn't happen and was just my perception. You also claim you have no political agenda at your pharmacy. Maybe you don't, but I assure you that the way your employee spoke to me, and her sharp refusal to even try to help me find a pharmacy that might carry "that stuff", indicated that she at the very least, has a very biased opinion of said medication and I can only think of one reason for such a bias at an actual pharmacy. So you do you. I'm sure I won't be the last person to claim your staff is rude. I'll be switching compounding pharmacies to fill my cat's thyroid scripts after today's surprising experience, and luckily I was able to find a compounding pharmacy way out in Mechanicsville that is happily filling his ivm script so we can heal his dangerous strongyloides lung infection. Well worth the drive to save my cat! That pharmacist was surprised that I thought they might not carry or fill it for me. Says a lot...
